Najib: Specific funding for young entrepreneurs will be in the upcoming Budget

 

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said there will be specific funding for young entrepreneurs in the upcoming Budget.

Najib said during a question and answer session at the launch of the 1Malaysia Entrepreneur (1MET) here that the funds will help to support activities and the initial starting of ventures by young entrepreneurs.

"Whether there is funding for young people entrepreneurs, the answer is yes.

"I will be announcing it in the forthcoming Budget," he said to a question on whether there will be any special funding for 1MET and other related efforts.

Some 5,000 entreprenuers from around the world are attending the 1MET event at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today.

He did not elaborate further as the details of the funding would only be known when the Budget is tabled on Oct 25.Also present were US Secretary of State John Kerry.

To another question, Najib said efforts would also be made to ensure rural folk will also get access for opportunities in entrepreneural endevours.

He said events such as 1MET, which is organised by the Finance Ministry would also be conducted from time to time to ensure young entrepreneurs are exposed to the latest trends.

Meanwhile, Kerry said collaborative efforts would be forged better through the UP Global initiative under the auspices of US Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker.
