Landmark new agreements boost Vietnam′s trade promotion

Three landmark trade agreements being introduced in Vietnam this year will help companies thrive and take advantage of the global economic recovery, according to an official from Vietnam’s trade ministry.

Deputy Minister Do Thang Hai said the 2016 national trade promotion programme will focus on the country’s strongest sectors and help companies make the most of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the ASEAN Economic Community and trade deals with the Eurasian Economic Union, the European Union and South Korea.

Bui Huy Son general secretary of the programme, said in order to achieve the target export growth at 10 per cent there will be a focus on Vietnam’s most popular export products, including agro-fishery products, garments and textile and footwear.

Deputy director of the Viet Nam Trade Promotion Agency, Ta Hoang Linh, said trade promotions would target members of the international agreements to boost Vietnam’s exports.

Linh added the programme would also promote the domestic market with the campaign "Vietnamese prioritise using Vietnamese goods".

The agency has urged local firms to improve the quality of their products and services, develop their brands and join global supply chains.

Linh said the programme would remove difficulties for businesses and maintain and expand export markets.
