About the role
Our User Research team is growing and we’re looking for our first person to join the Research Operations team. You will be part of our growing User Research team and will report to the Lead User Researcher.
The position is needed to enable HL to conduct user research efficiently and effectively. Your role will be to support the research team to enable speed and efficiency of our research practices, whilst supporting strong ethics and data governance.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Supporting research operations activity, including recruiting research participants, overseeing the consent process, coordinating research incentives
- Support the consideration of research ethics and accessibility needs when recruiting participants
- Support user research ways of working by continually updating documentation and guidelines for user research processes including participant consent, data storage and compliance, governance in all data handling, (in consultation with Privacy team and GDPR regulations)
- Coordinating tools and software used by the user research community to safely and effectively conduct user research, including sourcing and onboarding new tools and software
- Support the maintenance of the user research repository where outputs of user research and associated research materials can be stored for colleagues and stakeholders to use and refer to
- Maintain reliable resources, tools, and documentation to support customer insight discovery
- Sharing knowledge and expertise in data management with the user centred design community and wider.

- help the Accessibility Working Group:
- coach Accessibility awareness and skills through mentorship, training and knowledge sharing
- Support the Vulnerable Clients Working Group to ensure we treat all clients fairly
- work with the lead user researcher and the rest of the user research team to promote and shape user research at HL
About You
We need to see evidence that you:
- are collaborative and enjoy sharing your expertise and learning from others
- can help people learn a new tool or process through training, writing, or doing (whatever comes most naturally to you)
- are able to identify the pros and cons of different options and clearly communicate that with others to make informed decisions effectively
- are meticulous, and take pride in your attention to detail and set things up in a methodical way
- are interested in organising knowledge to make it more accessible to rapid-growth organisations
- understand the challenges of designing custom taxonomies, and how these can highlight opportunities for innovation
Desirable Experience
Not essential, but we would also like to see:
- Experience supporting or creating and managing operational programmes for UX research teams
- Experience building, growing and maintaining an in-house research operations practices
- A base knowledge of UX Research best practices
- Familiar with the governance processes associated with user research - from informed consent and data storage to risk assessments and wider research ethics
- You have a good understanding of Product Development and the role of User Research and Research Operations within it
- You have a good knowledge of research tooling - software, hardware and lab environments
