Job Description & Qualifications

We’re making zero carbon happen

We’re OVO Group, a big family of companies united by a single vision: to get to zero carbon, fast.

We call this Plan Zero – and it shows how we’ll be fighting the climate crisis and transforming the way people use energy over the next decade. To do this, we need the sharpest minds. Are you up for the challenge?

Do great green things with OVO Energy

So much has changed since we launched in 2009.  Our goal remains the same though: make energy cheaper, greener, and simpler. Just as it was on day one.

Everyone belongs at OVO

Our aim is to build a diverse and inclusive movement: teams of brilliant people, with unique talents, skills, passions, and experiences.

We encourage everyone to join us, whatever your gender identity, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, life experience, or background. So please come as you are – we can’t wait to meet you.

Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

You will be working within the Regulation Data Team, as part of OVO’s Policy and Regulation function, reporting into the Senior Regulatory Data Analyst.

The wider Policy and Regulation function are involved with establishing policy positions held by OVO Energy, and engaging with regulators to ensure consistent implementation of regulatory policy. As part of this, the Regulation Data team creates and provides analysis and insight to the regulator as well as both external and internal stakeholders.

What will I be doing?

You will be responsible for completing, validating and submitting regulatory reports and information requests in an accurate and timely manner to industry bodies such as BEIS and Ofgem, and supporting the Senior Analyst in creating insight to share regulatory data across the business. You will also provide analytical support to the wider Policy and Regulation team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure timely and accurate report submissions to regulatory bodies and external stakeholders
  • Support the business in providing data for external information requests
  • Create and maintain regulatory reporting, Google BigQuery scripts and procedures
  • Validate regulatory submissions to ensure a high level of data accuracy
  • Create and develop a suite of internal dashboards allowing users to monitor key areas of risk and self-serve where appropriate
  • Analyse complex data and communicate to senior stakeholders highlighting areas of regulatory risk for the business
  • Be able to confidently explain methodology of calculations and definitions to external regulatory bodies and internal stakeholders

Is this the job for me?

Essential skills and experience:

  • 1+ year in a similar data or analytical role (or educated to degree level in a numeric, scientific or engineering discipline)
  • Highly numerate & analytical and able to distil complex information into clear and understandable summaries
  • Logical approach to problem-solving to ensure any issues with reporting are resolved ahead of submission deadlines
  • Can confidently build and present meaningful data visualisations in Excel/Google Sheets, and ideally a dashboarding platform such as Tableau
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong organisational, time management and stakeholder engagement skills to ensure effective completion of all reports in a timely manner
  • Excellent communication skills - able to articulate results clearly and concisely to senior stakeholders

Ideally you will have:

  • Technical analytical skills including the use of tools such as Google Cloud Platform (especially BigQuery), Tableau and the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Some knowledge of programming languages (SQL, Python, R etc.)
  • Experience of working in a fast paced environment where prioritisation is required
  • Knowledge of the energy industry
  • Brilliant benefits for a world-changing team
