Want to solve some of the world’s biggest health challenges?

With over 300 years of innovation, we’re a science-led global healthcare company that delivers billions of innovative products each year. Join us and help millions of people do more, feel better, live longer.

Are you interested in a graduate career where you can help people do more, feel better and live longer? The Medical Affairs team in our Pharmaceuticals business are constantly looking to build a better understanding of our patients and to find new ways to make our life changing products accessible to more people, regardless of where they live or what they can afford to pay.

We’re looking for commercially savvy graduates who are willing to experience a series of stretching rotations within or related to Medical Affairs. You’ll develop a range of essential business skills, whilst also building a deep understanding of the Pharmaceuticals industry.

Medical Affairs is a crucial function in the pharmaceutical industry. The Medical Affairs team fundamentally serves as the bridge between the industry and its stakeholders via the medical community and in effect act as the medical face of a pharmaceutical company. This function is uniquely tasked with managing external relationships with the scientific community as well as with patient groups, authorities and beyond.

Responsibilities in this area are very varied but include ensuring the compliance of both promotional and non-promotional materials in accordance with the local industry code and relevant legislation, running investigator-initiated trials, developing relationships with key healthcare professionals and thought leaders. The team also run medical education events, develop publications and provide clinical and technical training about the diseases and medicines internally and externally.

Medical Affairs operates within a matrix environment, effectively linking science and commercial activity. Functions that work closely with medical affairs are Sales and Marketing, Market Access, Clinical Trials, Regulatory Affairs and Pharmacovigilance.

Develop your career

You will embark on a truly immersive three-year rotational programme that will enable you to gain a broad and fascinating insight into our Pharmaceuticals business. It will also challenge and support you to grow personally and professionally.

Each of your rotation will be spent in a different Medical Affairs (or related) team within your local business so you’ll quickly build up a wide range of skills and experiences.

In the Medical Affairs rotation, you’ll likely work in a customer-facing role. This will give you invaluable first-hand experience of working out in the field, interacting closely with Healthcare Professionals and clinics to share important information with them about our products and to deliver excellent customer service. If you strive for targets, take responsibility and are great at building relationships, you’ll thrive in our talented Medical Affairs team.

All your rotation will help you to further develop your understanding of our Commercial organisation and Medical Affairs team and will really test your business acumen and expertise.

Tailored training – and great career progression

We’ll tailor your training and development to suit your talents and ambition, as well as our business needs, setting you up for success in your chosen niche. After you complete our Future Leaders programme, you’ll have the skills to become a leader of the future. It all begins with a permanent role in Medical Affairs, which could  be Medical Scientific Liaison (MSL), Medical Advisor (MA) or Medical Information (MI) specialist. Career progression could be a role with increasing seniority as you develop greater depths of technical scientific expertise. With greater technical scientific expertise, future senior roles could include Senior MSL, Senior MA or Senior MI specialist followed by a Manager role, managing a team of technical experts. Senior Manager roles requires good people management skills in addition to great technical expertise. Senior Managerial roles could include the Therapy Area Head/ Head of Medical Affairs in the Therapy Area and ultimately, the Country Medical Director for a pharmaceutical company in a country. A career with GSK provides opportunities for progression beyond your country of origin. GSK Talents are supported and sent all over the world to deliver for patients and the business. There’s no limit to how far you can go with us – it’s up to you to prove yourself.

You’ll be excited by the thought of:

  • building your scientific knowledge, business sense and customer relationship skills on a tailored development programme
  • representing our products to healthcare professionals
  • learning how to prioritise and manage multiple projects, objectives and deadlines
  • growing your marketing, sales, project and customer management skills
  • shaping your own development and choosing courses in line with your needs and interests
  • learning new skills and concepts

Our Future Leaders programme is designed to accelerate the development of graduates who don’t have significant previous professional work experience in the area to which they are applying.  Of course, many graduates who join the programme have worked while studying or after graduation.  If you’ve already developed substantial experience working in a professional role in your sector, while you would be able to apply for this programme, you may also want to look at direct entry roles in our businesses, as these may be the best way to build on your existing skills and expertise and develop a career at GSK.

Benefits include:

  • competitive salary
  • flexible working arrangement
  • 15 days annual leave
  • health and well-being programs

We’re 100% open to all talent – whatever your gender, marital status, religion, age, colour, race, sexual orientation, nationality or disability. We want to recruit the right people for GSK from the widest possible backgrounds, so we can better serve the diversity of our patients and consumers. And also because it’s the right thing to do.
