Job Description & Qualifications

We are Merlin Magic Making and we are part of the magical Merlin Entertainments! When it comes to creativity and innovation Merlin Magic Making, part of Merlin Entertainments, is at the heart of delivering truly awesome creations.

Due to continuing global growth of our LEGOLAND Resorts, we are currently sourcing an imaginative and confident Chinese Theme Park Signage Creative on a fixed term contract initially for 12 months with view to extend to 2024.

Reporting into Senior Creative Director and Creative Leads for our LEGOLAND Resorts, you will work with MMM Creative and LEGOLAND China Resorts project teams to develop the creative direction and detailed designs for all the signage for the Resorts (Theme Parks, Hotels & Waterparks), providing designs and information in accordance with the brief and schedule.

Particular focus will be on Land/Attraction portal, main ID Signs (and supporting structures), as well as defining aesthetic pattern styles for all guest-facing operational signage. This will not include back of house signage.

Key Objectives include…

  • Proactively drive the creative development and generation of design output for the signage for the LEGOLAND China Resorts (Theme Parks, Hotels & Water Parks), delivering new and existing/refreshed signage output in accordance with the agreed creative vision and briefs.
  • Work with other MMM Creative team members, the nominated Project Manager/s, LEGO Merlin Partner team, Operations team, and external Project Partners, to select, allocate, generate existing and/or new Signage artwork for the whole resort, creatively managing the process from concept to print files, in accordance with the project schedule requirements.
  • Output to consist of concepts, design briefs, written descriptions, documents etc, (i.e. self-generated design data), in addition to the organisation of data, and the creative direction of others (such as external design contractors).
  • At each stage ensure that the physical content/design follows the agreed brief, LEGO and LEGOLAND brand guidelines, budget and schedule.

Job Skills/Competencies Required

  • Must speak both Mandarin and English fluently and be based in China.
  • Strong creative Designer, with proven signage experience capable of self-generating high quality visual output, drawings and supporting text/documents.
  • In depth knowledge/experience of Attractions design, with particular focus on storytelling and communication through signage.
  • A strong Visualiser (full artwork and ability to create quick sketches to brief others).
  • Ability to create or input into/extract information out from 3D models would be useful, to help support accurate scale, dimensions, and spatial depiction of signage.
  • Thorough understanding of and ability to direct a range of suppliers from concept through to delivery; including external design partners, visualisers and Graphic Designers, Architects and interior design, etc.
  • Existing and detailed LEGO brand knowledge preferred due to immediacy of project design schedule.
  • Proficiency in Photoshop and Illustrator as well as Word and Excel is essential and 3D
  • SketchUp software would also be an advantage.
  • Experience of working with IPs and delivering to their requirements.- Ability to proactively drive own output to support successful projects and teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, whether with peers or senior management, and capable of flexing style accordingly.
  • Appreciates autonomy and freedom, whilst also able to receive direction.
