Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
 
The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario  The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. If you enjoy outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, winter sports and lake country then this is an area you will love to live and work in.

Applicants who reside in Northwestern Ontario and have experience working in a cross-cultural environment, coupled with knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities presented to those living in the Northwest Ontario, are assets. About The Role

Schedule: 14 days on, 14 days off - 12 hour days, 6:00am - 6:00pm

Position Reports To: Senior Underground Mining Engineer

Position Overview

The Underground Production Engineer/EIT is responsible for providing technical support for development of the underground mine.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare long-hole daily void pull, drill and blast design letter
  • Prepare level plans and other infrastructure plans as required
  • Manage key engineering files in Deswik i.e. (stope shapes, blast shapes, survey cms)
  • Coordinate survey activities with survey dept.
  • Prepare daily report of mining activities (i.e meters developed, etc)
  • Prepare month end report of mining activities (i.e meters developed, etc.)
  • Prepare daily contractor activity reconciliation report
  • Prepare mining weekly plans for contractors
  • Perform underground audits of the ventilation system
  • Perform drilling and blast quality analysis and control
  • Assist with geotechnical planning and ensure the ground control management plan is followed
  • Assist with implementation of short range planning standards
  • Assist with preparation of weekly, monthly, and quarterly corporate reports and presentations
  • Assist with stope optimizations and dilution control 
  • Assist in stope economics assessment

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in mining engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • 1 to 5 years of experience working at a mining operation (open pit or underground suitable).
  • Registration with the PEO as a P. Eng or EIT, or eligibility for immediate registration.
  • Knowledge of underground mine design, as well as the technical processes related to drilling and blasting, stope reconciliation, mine ventilation, ground control, and cemented backfill.
  • Experience with mine planning software including AutoCAD, Deswik or Minesight is an asset.
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making abilities.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Working Conditions 

  • Position is based at the Rainy River Mine, 60km North-West of Fort Frances, Ontario
  • Approximately 80% office and 20% field (underground).
  • Minimal/occasional lifting required (typically less than 10kgs).
  • Team environment, with regularly scheduled and ad hoc meetings.
