Reporting to the Manager, Trust Accounting, we are currently seeking a Trust Accountant. The successful candidate will have knowledge of daily reconciliation of trusts accounts, accurate preparation and posting of journal entries into accounting system, inputting and verify bank transfers / wire payments / PACs / stop payments / tax payments and fraudulent items using a variety of banking platforms and ability to work well in the team to help the daily trust accounting tasks be completed.

What you will do

  • Daily reconciliation of trust accounts
  • Prepare and post daily journal entries to accounting system
  • Prepare and input cash transfers between trust and /or corporate accounts Responsible for preparing the daily capital transfers between the trust accounts and fund custodian accounts
  • Download and save banking documentations
  • Input wire payments using banking software Check, count, and add printed system and manual cheques
  • Check and approve manual cheque requests in accounting system
  • Processing stop payment cheque requests using the banking application
  • Prepare reconciliations for FundServ Trades (including A$M, FIR, Adjustment (AOT / REV trades), Dilution, weekly commissions and monthly Trailer Fees)
  • Check and signoff EFT deposits.
  • Prepare bank deposits and scanning of cheque deposits using banking application
  • Analyze and follow up on outstanding reconciling bank items with Operations and Client Service depts.
  • Verify cashed cheques using the banking site for fraudulent items
  • Reconcile and process tax remittance payments using the banking application Reconcile weekly commissions
  • Prepare and reconcile month-end bank charges to report to Corporate Accounting
  • Prepare and reconcile monthly Trust bank interests
  • Prepare and reconcile monthly Internal Fund compensation
  • Assist in documentation of department procedures
  • Respond to email inquiries received from other depts.

What you will bring

Experience

  • Industry related experience or equivalent Trust Accounting experience

Education/Training

  • Post-secondary education
  • Basic accounting principles
  • Canadian Securities Course and/or IFIC courses are an asset

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of the trust accounting / transfer agent function and basic accounting principles
  • Knowledge of CSS / FundServ functionality
  • Proficient in the use of software applications – working knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Able to complete tasks efficiently and accurately within set deadlines
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail is essential
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Dedicated and professional
  • Able to work in group environment, as well as independently
