We are currently recruiting for a Tax Specialist to join our Tax Operations team. You will play an integral part in assisting with the client’s year-end tax reporting requirements under Canadian and U.S. Tax Authorities (CRA, MRQ, and IRS).

  • Responsible for reviewing, researching, and analyzing year-end tax files/slips for accuracy and completeness. Tax slips include T3, T5, T5008, T5013, RL2, RL3, RL15, RL16, RL18, NR4, T4RSP, T4RIF, 1042S, 1042, 1099s, and other customized statements.
  • Perform data validation by sample checking tax reports against client account/activity information in our internal system.
  • Monthly reconciliation and review of Canadian and U.S. tax withholding and remittance.
  • Work closely with the Tax team to ensure complete and accurate tax slips are distributed to clients and remitted to relevant Tax Authorities (CRA, MRQ, and IRS).
  • Ensure all findings or discrepancies in client data files are escalated, documented, and addressed in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with the accounts team to review client tax documents for QI, FATCA, and CRS.
  • Support the Tax team in tax package mail outs, slip amendment process, and answering client tax inquiries.
  • Complete various ad-hoc duties & projects within the Tax department.

Experience

Minimum 2 years of experience in Tax function and/or client tax reporting

Education/Training

  • Completion of a post-secondary program

Working conditions

Overtime may be required during peak periods of the tax season (Jan-Apr)

Job Skills/Competencies Required

  • Familiar with various CRA/MRQ/IRS tax slips
  • Intermediate/Advance Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, primarily Excel
  • Strong reconciliation skills
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated
  • knowledge of the broker-dealer industry an asset
  • knowledge of FATCA, CRS, and QI tax regimes an asset
  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team
