WSP is currently seeking a Junior Surveyor, specializing in Transportation Engineering / Construction Services / Geomatics to join our Construction Survey team in Prince George, BC. Reporting to the Manager, this position will be responsible for providing technical services to Transportation projects including Establishing Project Control, Survey for Design, Survey for Construction, Quantities for Construction, Field Inspection, Quality Management Services


  • Setting up control for small and large transportation projects including setting rebar, static GPS observations with post-processing, traversing, leveling and RTK site calibrations;
  • Field recon including investigating project site as well as finding legal and utility evidence, use of pin finder and shovel, lifting manhole lids, and measuring inverts;
  • Topographic / Detail Surveys including transportation corridors, waterways, and structures using RTK GPS, Robotic Total Stations, Lidar, Scanners, Sounders, and drones;
  • Preparing Utility base for projects including field ties, deciphering both BC One Call information and Local Government Utility Plans and drafting;
  • Participating in Utility field locates utilizing induction methods and or Ground Penetrating Radar Arranging for Traffic Control Services;
  • Preparing Legal base for projects including field Plan Research, Field Ties, Lot boundary calculations, and drafting;
  • Producing ground model and survey base to client standards utilizing Civil 3D and Trimble Business Center;
  • Producing Preliminary Alignments, Profiles, Original Ground sections, and Design Cross Sections utilizing Civil 3D and Trimble Business Center;
  • Producing Survey Plan sets to client standards for delivery utilizing Civil 3D;
  • Performing Quality Control reviews on work done by coworkers;
  • Providing Construction Supervision support deciphering plans, producing grade files, grade stakeout, grade checking, quality assurance, field fit designs, and measuring/generating construction quantities;
  • Providing Construction Layout support including Slope Stakes, Grade Stakes, Culverts, Structures, and Utilities;
  • Providing Calculations, Quantities and Earthworks Volumes services for Construction projects;
  • Providing Inspection and Documentation services as part of a Construction Management team;
  • Providing technical Design support creating alignments, profiles, estimating quantities, drafting, and plotting;
  • Other duties as assigned/required.


  • Diploma in Transportation Engineering / Construction Services / Geomatics;
  • 0-3 years of relevant work experience;

Job Skills/Competencies Required

  • Valid & unrestricted Driver’s License and access to a vehicle;
  • Able & willing to travel across the province;
  • Able & willing to work overtime & weekends;
  • Able & willing to perform physically laborious job duties, including walking and lifting objects up to 100 pounds;
  • Ability to work alone and as a member of a team;
  • Driven to meet deadlines and willing to work overtime to meet these deadlines;
  • Self-motivated and able to follow instructions;
  • Able to accept critical review of own work by others to uphold the quality of work;
  • Able to deliver a critical review of others work to uphold standards quality of work;
