The Opportunity:

WSP is currently seeking a Entry Level Sustainability and Energy Consultant to join our Sustainability and Commissioning Team in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Candidates with some experience working with building systems will have an advantage.

Reporting to the Atlantic Manager - Sustainability and Commissioning, and working with our senior Sustainability PM and senior Commissioning PM, this position will:

  • assist with the delivery of sustainability, and commissioning services primarily on new building construction projects, and
  • energy auditing services on existing buildings.

Building projects range in type, size and complexity, from highway depots to acute care hospitals.

  • Delivery of best in class sustainability and high performance building services;
  • Support multiple projects to deliver a quality service;
  • Interact with WSP and client, client staff, architects, engineers, contractors, industry representatives and construction trades;
  • Facilitate green building certifications (LEED, Green Globes, BOMA BEST, WELL);
  • Assist with existing building energy audits;
  • Support the delivery of sustainability and analysis services required for the project (energy modelling, daylighting analysis, thermal comfort, envelope performance, etc.);
  • Provide technical support on sustainability and energy related concepts, strategies and design, such as site related issues, stormwater management, rainwater/greywater harvesting, water use reduction, envelope thermal performance, high efficiency building system, renewable systems, waste management, material selection, thermal comfort, ventilation and indoor air quality, daylighting, health and wellness, etc.;
  • Collaborate with design teams to integrate and achieve high performance buildings objectives (Net Zero, Carbon Neutral);
  • Provide guidance and support to clients and project teams on available energy efficiency incentive programs and compliance with building code energy efficiency requirements;
  • Identify and develop sustainability and energy conservation measures including calculations to demonstrate benefits (Life cycle costing, energy and energy cost savings, incentives, emissions, ROI, etc.);
  • Assist in the development clear and concise written reports that convey technical information, understanding of the client’s needs and objectives and recommendations to meet these objectives;
  • Assist with conducting and documenting commissioning and commissioning-related testing;
  • Contribute to the improvement of internal processes and documentation;

Projects will primarily be located in Nova Scotia, however, occasional travel to other provinces may be required. Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle is required. Travel expenses will need to be paid prior to reimbursement.



  • Previous experience in managing projects, clients, service delivery, timelines and budgets
  • Have a professional designation, or a plan to achieve a professional designation (such as: E.I.T., P.Eng., AScT, CTech).
  • Have credentials related to commissioning, or a plan to achieve such credentials (such as: LEED AP, BEMP, CMVP, CEM, CCP, BCxP).

  • AutoCAD, Sketchup and Revit skills
