The Bank Finance Compensation Team is a new team; this role will have the opportunity to design, streamline, and improve efficiencies of current reporting, and assist in the design of the team and create their respective role.

The individual for this role needs to be able to work autonomously and have effective time management and prioritization skills to manage various reporting requirements with varying deliverables. The individual will need to take initiative to become a business partner and effectively collaborate with the Sales Team, the Operations Compensation Processing team, and the Projects Team, as well as many other internal Bank teams, for steady state requirements, as well as the implementation of new compensation projects to ensure reporting requirements are met and delivered. 

This position will support a broad range of financial control and compensation related calculations and reporting, in addition to creating and improving the control environment, including:

  • Calculating incentive compensation for Bank Sales staff including payroll submissions 
  • Completing month end journal entries and financial statement account reconciliations 
  • Creating, maintaining and supporting management reporting packages and key metrics in collaboration with Sales Management, the Operations Compensation Processing Team and Bank Strategic Project Team
  • Supporting ad hoc management and employee queries 
  • Continued refinement/improvements of processes and procedures to access, analyze and report on data through improving steady state reporting requirements and increasing automation
  • Supporting year end external audit
  • Assisting with documentation of annual compensation changes, payroll letters, and ensuring systems are properly updated annually

Accountabilities:

  • Preparation and calculation of commission payments and processing payroll submissions
  • Coordinating with the Operations Compensation Processing team to ensure manual commission payments are processed properly to ensure payment accuracy
  • Manage confidential personnel information for field staff and liaison with payroll
  • A point of contact for field staff, sales leaders and the Operations Compensation Processing team, addressing inquiries in a timely manner, processing corrections, and implementing changes to prevent issues from occurring again
  • Process month end journal entries for sales staff, broker and advisor commissions and manage corresponding financial statements account balance sheet and income statement reconciliations.
  • Complete monthly reconciliations to ensure payroll submissions tie to the general ledger
  • Assist in the completion of payroll run rate and other key leadership reporting
  • Support year-end analysis for external audit requirements for both Manulife Bank and Manulife Trust for any compensation payment requirements
  • Assist with year-end sales compensation reconciliation and ensure accurate and timely payout of variable compensation
  • Work with the Compensation Project team to improve data accuracy and reduce processing time by identifying issues and working to find solutions
  • Support and participation in compensation projects and initiatives Assist with completion of the annual compensation letter updates and distribution process
  • Partner with the Operations Compensation Processing team, Payroll, Sales HR Partners, Sales reporting team, and the Compensation Project team to ensure payments are made properly, assist with investigation into payment issues
  • Collaborating with the Compensation Project team, Sales leaders, and Operations Compensation Processing team to continuously streamline and improve efficiency and processes of the compensation process to reduce manual payments and improve overall payment accuracy

Job Requirements:

  • Working towards the completion or has completed an Accounting designation
  • University Degree in business, or related experience

Job Skills/Competencies Required

  • Strong project management skills including the ability to provide leadership and project accountability
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS accounting
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build relationships both among internal and industry peers to keep abreast of current issues within the industry
