WSP is currently looking for an environmental / geotechnical technician to join our team based in the Sherbrooke office. Reporting to the Department Director, this position will be responsible

  • Perform field work to supervise site interventions related to geotechnical studies and description of soils and rock;
  • Carry out the following field work: observation trenches, environmental and geotechnical drilling, in situ geotechnical tests such as Nilcon scissometer, pressuremeter and sledge tests (Packers), installation of observation wells, etc .;
  • Perform soil, sediment, surface and groundwater sampling;
  • Conduct groundwater, biogas, land surveying and permeability tests;
  • Implement and enforce health and safety plans on construction sites;
  • Supervise subcontractors on the sites;
  • Supervise the rehabilitation of contaminated sites;
  • Control the quality and quantities of materials, write daily reports;
  • Write site memos and notices intended for contractors in order to enforce contractual clauses;
  • Ensure the completion of the work as well as the compliance of plans and specifications;
  • Take the necessary measures to ensure compliance with laws and regulations or written directives relating to the work;
  • Perform all other related tasks that may help with the completion of projects.

Qualifications

  • DEC in geology or civil engineering or BAC in geology;
  • 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in environmental and geotechnical characterization;
  • Hold an ASP certification (Health and safety course on construction sites);


Job Skills/Competencies Required

  • Possess a valid driver's license;
  • Available to work on sites outside the region;
  • Excellent communication both orally and in writing;
  • Good command of French both orally and in writing. Bilingualism (French and English) would be an asset.
