Rainy River Mine

Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
 
The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario  The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. If you enjoy outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, winter sports and lake country then this is an area you will love to live and work in.

About the Role

Position Reports To: Communities Manager

Position Overview

The Key objective of this position is to foster business capacity within Indigenous Communities/ Groups/ and Entrepreneurs in order to develop competitive and sustainable businesses within the local region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify immediate and future opportunities for contracted services within Indigenous Communities
  • By working collaboratively with other departments, facilitate the implementation of New Gold’s business and contracting commitments.
  • Develop and maintain a current Indigenous business registry through the identification, assessment and collection of baseline information.
  • Assist with the development of business plans that align with capacity building and contracting opportunities.
  • Work with Indigenous groups and New Gold to minimize barriers to business opportunities.
  • Introduce potential business partners
  • Communicate with various committees and communities on contacting and capacity requirements.
  • Communicate with various department managers to efficiently leverage all available resources
  • Research and define key industry opportunities
  • Monitor and report on business commitments.
  • Ensure contracting requirements are structured to optimize Indigenous business opportunities.
  • Work with private industry and government to understand funding opportunities: assist with preparation proposals
  • Any additional tasks as requested by your supervisor.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as a Business or Economic Development Officer or a related position.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred but not necessasry
  • Local indegenous candiates preferred
  • Experience with fostering and developing sustainable businesses
  • Ability to demonstrate, share and live our company values; Integrity, Creativity, Commitment, and Development of our employees
  • Knowledge of programs that assist and facilitate business start-up or growth
  • Demonstrated safety leadership
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and business acumen.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage tight deadlines and competing priorities.
  • Good judgement, critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated experience and success in providing/ or creating conditions for service excellence for a variety of stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and anticipation of community partner needs as they refer to business development
  • Demonstrated success in building trusting relationships with the local community, indigenous groups, employees, colleagues and service providers.
  • Valid Ontario Drivers License
  • Attention to detail with excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to effectively prioritize job duties
  • Experience in a cross-cultural work environment
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization
