The Canadian Armed Forces Long Term Disability (CAF LTD) Department manages approximately 10,000 active Long-Term Disability (LTD) claims. The Bilingual Disability Calculation Analyst is responsible for timely and accurate approval of all new LTD claims.

This role is also accountable for determining and calculating offsets (Earnings, CPP, Pension, and Other applicable plan offsets) as well as COLA calculations on LTD claims to ensure accurate financial payments and reserving methodology are achieved.

In addition, this role will be accountable for determining, calculating and recovering overpayments on Long Term Disability (LTD) claims. The incumbent will complete all of the required system work on our claims system associated with offsets and overpayments.

The incumbent will work closely with internal resources; LTD Case Managers, Vocational Rehabilitation Counsellors, Associate Managers and Disability Specialists as well as external partners: Employers, Members, third parties and other Calculation Analysts. The Calculation Analyst will be a technical resource to the Case Manager when applicable.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Bilingual French and English required
  • Approve all new LTD claims in a timely and effective manner
  • Calculate applicable offset(s) to LTD benefits
  • Calculate the All-Source Maximum LTD Benefit, as applicable
  • Financial adjustments, as required
  • Calculate LTD benefit overpayments, negotiate repayment schedules directly with Members and ensure overpayments are being recovered in an acceptable amount and time period.  Monitor all overpayments through to complete recovery
  • Perform Navigator system work by accurately coding the correct offset, the offset type, payment reversals, payment refunds, stop payments, setting the overpayment schedule and setting follow-up tasks
  • Liaise with LTD Case Managers on the status of the offsets and overpayments for their assigned claims so that the Case Managers are always aware and informed of actions taken on their caseload

Job Skills/Competencies Required

  • Answer tax related questions from Members
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy is critical
  • Superb data entry skills and Proficiency with MS Excel is required
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex calculations
  • Ability to interpret policy language
