Role

The Group Benefits Production Support team is looking for a software engineer with a passion for troubleshooting and improving our customers’ experience. As a successful candidate, you will be helping to support our internal administration systems.  You enjoy collaborating with Platform Reliability Engineers, Product Owners, and Engineering Squads to uncover pain points and opportunities to improve the overall experience.  You thrive on delivering resilient and scalable applications, with a focus on continuous delivery and operational insight. Creativity in solving problems is your strength. You are always learning by using new tools and technologies. Communicating effectively is what you do!

This position is available in Halifax, Waterloo, Toronto and Montreal.

We need someone who will:

  • Identify and evaluate solutions to system issues or opportunities to improve on current technical strategies and solutions
  • Provide solutions to system or business-initiated questions
  • Provide Development for IT driven change requests (non-functional)
  • Manage production systems, monitoring and addressing system alerts
  • Provide support and coordination of complex infrastructure changes
  • Investigate root cause and work towards elimination of production interruptions
  • Liaise with other Manulife teams and vendors for production incident handling
  • Recommend areas of improvement to infrastructure, application, and/or processes to prevent or mitigate future failures
  • Monitor for overall System Availability and Response Times
  • Review current software framework to identify defects and opportunities to improve performance and stability
  • Participate in a paid on-call support rotation
  • Promote agile principles and methodologies
  • Participate in ideation and brainstorming sessions to devise creative and disruptive digital solutions
  • Constantly learning from success and failures
  • Takes ownership of operational & support activities
  • Work with Engineering squads to understand and accept releases via ‘handover to support’
  • Be engaged with Engineering squads to influence and support customer priorities

Qualifications:

Computer Science degree or equivalent experience

  • We work with a Site Reliability Mindset.  We leverage monitoring tools many times daily!  Bonus points if you have a working knowledge or experience with monitoring tools including New Relic, Dynatrace, PRTG, Moogsoft.
