What's the role?

Our Graduate Programme is a rigorous development framework of specific competences, business critical capabilities, and critical experiences that will enable you to become a competitive professional by the end of your 3-year programme.

The graduate programme encompasses a learning framework that includes internal and external courses, as well as on-the-job learning, designed to help you gain the skills you need to succeed.

The Materials & Corrosion Engineer works in the Mechanical and Integrity Department, with expertise in the areas of materials selection, welding, failure analysis, corrosion management, corrosion monitoring, RBI, cathodic protection, together with the provision of timely M&C advice on matters of specification, design, selection, procurement, application, maintenance and turnaround. The scope is broad covering corrosion and materials issues of pressured systems, chemical treatment, supporting new process development and rotating components. The key IT system used for the management of the Materials and Corrosion data and activities is the Shell In-house web-based Integrity Management System, w-IMS.

Location: Bintulu, Sarawak, Malaysia - On-site 

Some of your daily activities:

  • You will give advice on procurement, application, modification, design, repair, installation, and fitness for service in the field of mechanical engineering
  • You will define mitigations and authorize deviations from standards/ processes and delegate such authority where appropriate
  • You will develop skills and competencies in mechanical engineering in line with changing business needs and technical developments with focus on asset integrity and process safety.
  • You will establish continuous improvements of the technical services and share Best Practices within the organization but also peers in Technical/Scientific Institutions.

To be eligible for the Shell Graduate Program, you should be in your final year of study or have less than three years of relevant work experience.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline preferably Metallurgy or Materials Engineering
  • Skilled in conducting Fitness for Service Assessment
  • Proven ability to communicate well and earn respect of other engineers in her/his field both within Shell and outside
  • Learner Mindset, proven track record of continuous improvement
