Job Description & Qualifications

The DevOps Platform Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation and support of processes and tools to enable continuous integration and continuous delivery, maximizing the speed and quality of delivery across teams. The role is responsible for automating build, release, deployment, and configuration activities. The incumbent needs to work closely with software, QA, systems engineers and support personnel to understand requirements and prototype, architect, implement, operate and update DevOps solutions accordingly. This role must be flexible to constant business and technology change, with the ability to interact, engineer, and communicate collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

Key accountabilities and decision ownership :

The DevOps Platform Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation and support of processes and tools to enable continuous integration and continuous delivery, maximizing the speed and quality of delivery across teams

This role is responsible for automating build, release, deployment, and configuration activities

This role is responsible for working closely with software, QA, systems engineers and Ops personnel to understand requirements and prototype, architect, implement, operate and update DevOps solutions accordingly

This role must be flexible to constant business and technology change, with the ability to interact, engineer, and communicate collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders

The Ideal Candidate For This Role Will Have

Must have technical/professional qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Programming, or other related field is essential
  • Three or more years of experience in devops, development and /or systems analysis applying agile frameworks
  • At least two years of DevOps platform management in large delivery organizations
  • Extensive experience designing, developing, testing, and deploying DevOps toolchains to support continuous integration and continuous delivery, using a variety of technologies and environments
  • Extensive experience working with at least two or more programming languages (e.g. PHP, Java), virtualization (e.g. VMWare), database technologies (e.g. MySQL), and release and configuration management tools (e.g. Ansible)
  • Extensive experience working in cloud-native environments
  • Experience working in a large agile environment, with multiple teams

Job Skills/Competencies Required

  • Professional experience and knowledge of the Telecommunications industry preferred
  • Automated software and infrastructure deployment and configuration management
  • Agile and Devops Software development experience
  • Public and private cloud IaaS and PaaS deployment models and technologies, e.g. Openshift, AWS, Azure
  • Continuous integration and continuous delivery methodologies and tools
  • Production-readiness assessment of modules and supporting systems
  • Analytics and data-driven frameworks to monitor and optimize development and operations processes
  • Strong understanding of network protocols and client-server communication
  • Expertise with at least two or more programming languages (e.g. PHP, Java, JavaScript)
  • Database technologies -RDBMS, e.g. MySQL, PostGreSQL, Oracle and NoSQL e.g. Cassandra, Spark, Redis, Mongo,etc.
  • Virtualization and infrastructure technologies, e.g. Windows, Linux, VMWare, Xen, KVM, Docker
  • Infrastructure automation and configuration management tools, e.g. Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Salt
  • Ability to analyse and interpret complex problems or processes, identify and understand requirements, and develop solutions
  • Strong creativity, problem solving skills and ability to apply original thinking to produce new ideas and innovative solutions
  • Strong relationship building, persuasion, and collaboration skills that enables the coordination of activities between technical teams and the creation of new relationships with new acquaintances quickly and confidently
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to apply work with and train a wide variety of roles to change ways of working and establish new processes
  • Willingness to track, assess, and incorporate practice and technology developments into day-to-day working
  • Ability to rapidly acquire new knowledge and learn new skills
  • Understanding of both the current Telecommunications and digital services market and emerging business and technology trends
