Job Description & Qualifications

Exciting opportunities are available for Industrial Engineer students to gain experience in their field of study through a 12 month internships at our Midrand DC in Johannesburg. In return, successful candidates will be paid an allowance to cover basic travel costs.

Key requirements:

  • Degree in Industrial Engineering 
  • 6 to 12 months experience in Logistics and warehouse environment
  • Good organization and planning skills
  • Understanding of the Supply chain processes in a Logistics environment
  • Understanding of line balancing, time study methodologies, problem solving, sound decision making skills, critical thinking
  • Currently reside in the Johannesburg
  • Must be a South African Citizen
  • Must be unemployed
  • Currently be between the ages of 18 – 35 years old (South African Youth age requirement)

Key Responsibilities and Exposure to:

  • Value Stream Mapping- process mapping, time, method studies to identify Value adding & Non-value adding processes. Research and recommend ways to improve efficiency and ensure the customers’ demands are met
  • Capacity Modelling – Be able to quantify process requirements i.e., Labour, machines, warehouse sizing and layout
  • Budget Administration - Assist in tracking budget allocated for a project, ensure weekly update and feedback
  • Vendor Engagement – Liaise with vendor to get costing, quotations, negotiate costing
  • Continuous Improvement- Identifying opportunities to optimize workplace layouts to improve efficiency, ergonomics and workflow
  • Warehouse Design
  • Loss control - Assist with and recommending solutions on how to minimize off standard loss- reduce time
  • Involvement in and identifying waste control in materials, suppliers and machinery
  • Change Management champion – Ensure new warehouse initiatives/ processes are implemented as per the design and are sustain throughout their implementation phase
  • Document and train staff on new SOP, process flows
  • Technology- identify automation to improve efficiency and reduce cost of manufacturing
  • Ergonomics- working closely with relevant team members to engineer the workplace to result in higher efficiency
