My work is not directly related to my degree however I can definitely apply some of what I learnt to my day-to-day work.

Attend industry events such as open days, and seek out informational interviews.

Make the time before starting your studies really count. Use the months before coming to the UK effectively. If you come to the UK with experience and skills to offer it will be easier to gain opportunities. 

Start early. Research what jobs are out there. You don't need to apply to them straight away, but doing your homework and understanding what these jobs are asking for can give you a sense of where your gaps are, and how to start filling them.

Be relentlessly proactive! Identify what you're really passionate about and do everything you can to prove that passion!

Recognise the additional skills and qualities you have as an international student and sell these to employers.

If possible, seek CV and interview advise from your university's career hub. It is time consuming but remember, this is also part of the journey. I always asked for feedback after every rejection which helped me improve my CV and job search at the end.

There's an emphasis in the UK on credentials and qualifications, so, as early as possible, you should try to find and join societies that will help you to develop your career.
