What do you like most about your job?

The detective work! I really enjoy data analysis. When you are sent a large set of data, you really don't know what has gone wrong and where, and it is my job to use my initiative and problem-solving skills to get to the bottom of it. Every day brings a new challenge as I don't really know what I’m going to be working on. My job is never mundane!

How did your course help you to get this job?

Alongside the technical knowledge my course provided, there were other really useful modules focused on how to thrive in the commercial world. For example, I really liked the Project Management module, which showed you how to manage an activity from beginning to end, and to make it successful. This really helped me in terms a job being created for me at Bristol Rovers Football Club.

The support I received during my studies was also excellent. Beginning studies in the UK can be a steep learning curve for international students, but all of my professors really helped me out. I felt I could go to them and ask anything, anytime; and the amount of confidence they gave me was fantastic. This really helped me to succeed.

What key advice would you give to current international students looking to start a career in the UK?

Make the time before starting your studies really count. Use the months before coming to the UK effectively. Try to find any apprentice job, work experience or volunteering opportunities that will build your skills in the area you want to work in. If you come to the UK with experience and skills to offer it will be easier to gain opportunities whilst studying, which in turn will open up job opportunities when you graduate.

Also, you really need to do your homework if applying for jobs in the UK. Find out what each employer does, the principles they stand for, and what skills they are looking for. This should form the basis for your applications to them.
