What typical tasks and activities does your current role involve?

Amongst others, my job description entails the following:
  • To protect and secure the legal interests and corporate assets of the Group and its group of companies through providing balanced and practical legal advice on a day to day basis in relation to Company Group′s various activities and to ensure other corporate objectives of the Group are achieved.
  • To over look the Group′s legal matters pertaining to litigation and arbitration matters.
  • To advise the Group on their legal rights and to provide legal guidance and support in new projects that are being considered and to ensure maximum protection of the Group′s rights while maintaining its operations within the limits prescribed by law.
  • To draft, review, vet and analyse agreements pertaining to the many different contracts the Group is involved in and to ensure it is in compliance with the law within a particular jurisdiction.
  • To negotiate to the best interest of the Group on a broad range of corporate/commercial related agreements.

What skills, knowledge and experience contributed to you getting this job?

This is due to the fact that I possess the following qualifications, qualities and skills:
  • A recognised law degree from a reputable university.
  • A postgraduate and masters degree in law.
  • Experience in litigation and arbitration having conducted trials and participated in multimillion dollar arbitrations.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills where I speak 4 different languages.
  • Am a mature individual, hardworking and with strong interpersonal skills and attention to details.
  • Am a highly driven individual with a vision to grow and expand myself.
  • Have acquired the skills of negotiation and mediation through various courses which I have undertaken from time to time to improve and expand my legal skills.

What key advice would you give to current Malaysian students who would like to get similar work to yours?

A good degree in law from a reputable institute is a must and the individual must possess the right attitude to learn and keep on advancing himself or herself. A keen interest in always keeping abreast with the latest development of the law is also essential and the individual must also be hardworking, mature, a team player and possess the qualities of a leader.
