Cassie studied at the University of Reading and is an analyst with Chinascope in Shanghai. Below she talks about her career and how she accomplished her goals, and gives you advice on how to be successful in your future.

What do you do?

I am doing a manifest of works at the moment. Basically, I need to collect data on companies and industries and then classify and organise them.

Why do you think you got this job?

Accounting knowledge. For my job, it requires specific techniques. Accounting knowledge is different from other techniques. It is based on the rules but you get proficient through practice. I have an academic background and undertook a relevant internship - I think this is why I got the job.

What key advice would you give to current students from China who would like to get into a similar job to you?

Gain as much practical experience as you can. Employers are more willing to recruit experienced people

What other advice would you give to others graduates?

Gain as much practical experience as you can. Employers are more willing to recruit experienced people, rather than just the people with impressive degrees.
