What key advice would you give to current students from China who would like to get into a similar job to you?

- familiar with everything in accounting field. Although you might be only asked to work in a specific are in accounting, it is all relevant.
- have some brief ideas about other departments. My experience told me there is a tight link between financial department and other departments
- try to do some internship during your studies. You will never know your weakness unless you are in a real working environment.

Please give a brief description of your job and what it involves.

I do a wide range of research for the company, especially in the potential investment projects, clients’ credit history and the financial information for the clients’ companies’ merger or acquisition. At the same time, I also work with my colleagues to  analyse of financial reports and do some auditing works.

Why do you think you got this job? (e.g. what skills/knowledge/experience did you have)

There are thousands of Chinese students doing accounting-relevant courses in the UK. But most of them know everything to perform well in exams but know nothing in practices. Personally speaking, my strength in competing with others for the job position is the proficient use of accounting software. In fact, most accounting works are computer based in the practice. There is a knowledge gap between the studies and work. The additional skills helped me to stand out.

Please feel free to add anything else that you think would be useful to other current students and graduates.

Many Chinese students keep waiting and seeing after they have done their degrees and backed to China, which for me is not a good attitude. Some argued that they are waiting for the perfect opportunity. But the competition in the Chinese society is ever fierce. Therefore, I suggest the graduates to plan their careers in advance and take actions just in time.
