Job Description & Qualifications

As the research and analysis division of the Economist Group, The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) helps leaders prepare for opportunity, empowering them to act with confidence when making strategic decisions. The EIU is the global standard in providing quality, actionable intelligence to the public and private sector, assessing issues that impact the marketplace for over two hundred countries.

We are recruiting a temporary Production Editor to carry out primary outsourcing responsibilities for London-based Country Analysis products, particularly Wire Services, ensuring that high quality and timely delivery of content is maintained.

This is a contractual role for 4 months.


How you will contribute:

  • Summarise articles and The EIU’s view on important themes
  • Support Risk Briefing (operational risk) country models: Copy edit final text for countries (including fact check); prepare files for publication
  • Update Risk Briefing website: Select appropriate articles to re-publish and periodically update the landing page and write summary nibs for these; copy edit contributor articles 
  • Copy edit Country Outlooks: Tally text with the country report and prepare files for publication
  • Contribute regulations articles: Write short articles on regulatory changes in the six sectors covered on the EIU’s Industry Briefing product.
  • Select and process third-party articles: Select EIU-appropriate articles through the BBC Monitoring Service and The Economist, and publish these through DMS onto Wire Services sites

Experience, skills and professional attributes

The ideal skills for this role are:

  • A good level of general education
  • Excellent English language and writing/editing skills 
  • Knowledge of/interest in economics and current affairs, particularly geopolitics
  • You must be educated to university degree standard
  • Proficient in Word and Excel
  • 1-2 years of experience in online sub-editing. Experience of working in an outsourcing environment would be an advantage
  • Flexibility in dealing with a number of requests at the same time
  • Willingness to help out with different tasks
  • A good eye for detail
  • Reliability and ability to keep calm under pressure
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with other members of staff
  • Ability to work as part of a diverse team
