As an Engineering Manager you will provide line management, technical supervision and you will improve how we continuously deliver our applications ensuring best practice and innovation of our systems

We’re changing, embedding alternate data sources such as GPS and satellite data into our forecasting, products will increasingly be tailored to individual clients, driven by some of the most innovative data in the market. A highly collaborative team of Product Managers, Customer Experience and Product Engineering is being created with a focus on creating business and customer value driven by real time analytics alongside our traditional products.

Can you 

  • Execute on strategic direction set by business working with product owners on priority
  • Take technical responsibility for all stages in the software development life-cycle.
  • Set team-based standards for programming tools and techniques, advise on their application and ensure implementation
  • Identify complexity in projects/services/processes and proactively and works with the team to scope and prioritise resolutions
  • Design, write and deliver software to deliver on strategic direction
  • Coach, motivate and develop team members through their career track in an environment of continuous improvement and modern technologies and techniques.
  • Works within, and encourages a Devops culture and Continuous Delivery process.
  • Works within agile cross-functional product teams

Experience, skills and professional attributes

The ideal skills for this role include:

  • Main language speciality in .Net.
  • Expert in Agile development methodologies 
  • Experience of commercial web software development experience (using HTML, CSS, Javascript)
  • Complete understanding of data and content flows through CMS and CDN systems
  • Experience in developing on public cloud infrastructure, specifically AWS.

 To succeed in this role it would be an advantage if you possess:

  • Hands-on technical experience.
  • Capable of technical deep-dives into code and architecture.
  • Proficiency in algorithms, data structures, complexity analysis and software design 
  • Demonstrated expertise in recruiting and managing a team of enthusiastic, experienced engineers on large scale projects.
  • Expertise in problem solving and analysing global scale distributed systems.
  • Effective management and communication skills

Currently we are looking for a Database Management-Customer Insights Executive who will support the day-to-day requests of our integrated automation systems and database. Our database activities support the data and deployment needs of teams focused on opinion surveys, events and marketing engagement (newsletters, lead generation mechanisms, etc.).

The position will report into the Database Management-Customer Insights Senior Executive. The successful candidate will provide support to database constituents worldwide. The candidate will provide data upload and reporting insights, implementation of activities against data pulls, and help improve the quality of customer data.

The role will cover requirements from the Publisher team globally, particularly requests from London and New York. As such, while the role is based on local hours (9:00-5:30pm in Gurgaon) some flexibility will be required to cover day-to-day contact with London and occasional meetings with New York.

Accountabilities

How you will contribute: 

  • Manage workflow across their individual projects
  • Maintain data quality controls across their requests
  • Assist database users with data needs, best practices and issue resolution globally
  • Compile data for direct marketing campaigns and other activities
  • Support the set-up and maintenance of lead generation forms
  • Facilitate data and deployment requirements for monthly or ad-hoc newsletters
  • Report on campaign performance (emails, newsletters, site engagement, etc.)
  • Conduct weekly data maintenance to improve the quality of data and value of database
  • Work closely with the Database Management-Customer Insights Lead (UK), Database Gurgaon team and key constituents to ensure data requirements are met in a timely fashion while also ensuring highly targeted and high performing records.
  • Efficient management of data needs across one’s projects
  • Clear tracking and communication of request progress
  • Clear communication of data results and gaps

Experience, skills and professional attributes

The ideal skills for this role are:

  • 1 year database management experience (with specific focus on Salesforce)
  • 1-3 years of work experience
  • Experience in database management-customer insights
  • Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM/ automation system
  • Experience with Eloqua or similar marketing email software
  • Experience with Cvent or similar event registration system
  • Working knowledge of HTML and SQL a plus
  • Experience with other resources a plus: DemandTools, Marketo, MailChimp, Dynamics, Blue Kai, Responsys, Google Analytics
  • Strong IT skills with an ability to learn new applications and skills quickly
  • Experience with survey programming tools a plus: Confirmit, etc.
  • Proficient with Access, Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Strong ability to multi-task and move between short and long term data requests/projects
  • Strong communications skills
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks whilst maintaining a high level of quality
  • Being able to meet deadlines and prioritise work effectively
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work well in a team

The Economist Events—the award-winning events and conferences division of The Economist Group—seeks a contract Programme Assistant who will be responsible for providing integral assistance to the Programing team in the development of our event programs. The role requires strong written and oral communication skills, project management ability and business savvy as well as the ability to collaborate across the entire events team. This role will have a particular focus on a major innovation-themed event to be held in Germany in June 2020.

How you will contribute:

  • Support the programme editor to manage programme development, speaker invitations, and speaker management process
  • Researching contact details, creating and sending invitations, making follow up calls and emails, and setting meetings for programme editor
  • Managing speaker communications and logistics in the lead up to event/s.  This includes collecting required information from speakers, setting calls between speakers and moderators, managing speaker and moderator travel and protocol requirements, liaising with marketing, operations and editorial staff, and other administrative tasks as required
  • Follow up with confirmed speakers to obtain key materials: biography, photo, video release form, VIP dinner attendance
  • Assist in conference programme development as required, including topic and speaker research
  • Coordinate with marketing, sponsorship, operations and other teams to ensure smooth planning for and running of events
  • Coordinate with client in-house event team and other service providers as required 

The ideal skills for this role are:

  • University level education; 1-2 years of work experience is an advantage
  • Subject-matter expertise in business innovation and/or technology is an advantage
  • Fluency in spoken English. Ability to make phone calls with a confident and professional demeanour in a range of situations
  • Excellent copy-writing and editing skills in English. Ability to write invitations and briefs for senior editors and speakers
  • Ability to communicate with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including senior level business and government representatives 
  • Outstanding administrative and project management skills
  • Highly organized and proactive personality; problem solving and analytical capabilities, combined with an ability to carefully follow instructions and processes
  • An understanding of The Economist and Economist Events brand
