Job Description & Qualifications

As our business develops and expands its multiplatform approach to advertising, it is vital that we have in-house technical and product specialism on our existing and emerging digital capabilities. The Digital Delivery Team has been created as a digital centre of excellence to consolidate technical expertise, product development, vendor management and production within the same team.

The Digital Producer is responsible for the production of digital deliverables from start to finish including website projects, web and in app advertising units, and other interactive formats and components for integrated programs. The role reports to the Global Head of Digital Delivery in London, and partners closely with global teams across the Economist Group. As such, while the role is based on local hours some flexibility will be required to cover day-to-day contact with New York and London. 

Accountabilities

How you will contribute:

  • Work with digital development agencies and internal teams to manage the production of website builds and ad projects
  • Utilize knowledge of digital delivery capabilities and partners to contribute relevant, interesting ideas
  • Collaborate with analytics, infrastructure, information security, design, sales, and other group teams or stakeholders to ensure successful delivery and ongoing maintenance of digital assets 
  • Own the identification and resolution of bugs, issues and other technical fixes
  • Contribute to the tracking and processing of digital delivery costs, training and information content (digital delivery website, training presentations, process documentation)
  • Participate in product and platform evaluations, pricing, prototyping and onboarding for the digital deliverables of integrated programmes

Experience, skills and professional attributes

The ideal skills for this role are:

  • Knowledge of web development, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, ad build and trafficking, QA, analytics and insight, data visualization, etc.
  • Prior experience in copywriting, graphic design & illustration, infographics, animation, video editing, social media campaign management, project management, content management, etc.
  • Proficiency with online tools for content such as WordPress or other CMS’, Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Ad Builders, Web Page Builders, data visualisation tools, etc.
  • An understanding of the global media marketplace and competitor landscape as well as trends in design, storytelling, and tech
  • Strong ability to multi-task and prioritise work effectively to move between distinct projects
  • Detail-oriented, solution-oriented, and ability to think on your feet

We are looking for a Software Developer for building the website and our subscription fulfillment engine for our chinese offering The Economist Global Business Review. As part of the journey you will be working along with the Product Owner & other stakeholders in proving the roadmap and building the strategy.

Accountabilities

How will you contribute:

● Develop new user-facing features, build reusable code and libraries for future use using React
   JS, Material UI
● Write business logic using JavaScript, Typescript
● Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs
● Optimize application for maximum speed and scalability
● Collaborate with other team members
● Create quality mockups and prototypes
● Ensure Web Standards are in place, troubleshooting, debugging web apps

Experience, skills and professional attributes

The ideal candidate for this role:

● Minimum 2 Years of experience in HTML5,CSS3, JavaScript
● Having at least 1+ years of experience in React JS, Redux, Redux Saga etc.
● Hands on experience working with Object Oriented JavaScript, JavaScript libraries and their
   practical uses in building complex interactive experience
● Hands on experience with ES6 and should be up to date with new specifications and cross
   browser compatibility
● Sound knowledge of common JavaScript design patterns, MVC, Atomic design paradigm
● Experience of TypeScript and Node JS is a plus
● Understanding of Webpack bundler and build systems like Grunt
● Experience with TDD using Jest and working with utilities like Enzyme
● Knowledge of web standards, progressive enhancements, and accessibility concerns
● Experience of CSS frameworks and architecture that go hand-in-hand with React JS.
   Understanding of Responsive web design principles and mobile first approach
● Understanding of best practices and standards that go hand-in-hand with modern web
   development
● Experience in Single Page Application development, GIT and Agile methodology

As the research and analysis division of the Economist Group, The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) helps leaders prepare for opportunity, empowering them to act with confidence when making strategic decisions. The EIU is the global standard in providing quality, actionable intelligence to the public and private sector, assessing issues that impact the marketplace for over two hundred countries.

We are recruiting a temporary Production Editor to carry out primary outsourcing responsibilities for London-based Country Analysis products, particularly Wire Services, ensuring that high quality and timely delivery of content is maintained.

This is a contractual role for 4 months.

Accountabilities

How you will contribute:

  • Summarise articles and The EIU’s view on important themes
  • Support Risk Briefing (operational risk) country models: Copy edit final text for countries (including fact check); prepare files for publication
  • Update Risk Briefing website: Select appropriate articles to re-publish and periodically update the landing page and write summary nibs for these; copy edit contributor articles 
  • Copy edit Country Outlooks: Tally text with the country report and prepare files for publication
  • Contribute regulations articles: Write short articles on regulatory changes in the six sectors covered on the EIU’s Industry Briefing product.
  • Select and process third-party articles: Select EIU-appropriate articles through the BBC Monitoring Service and The Economist, and publish these through DMS onto Wire Services sites

Experience, skills and professional attributes

The ideal skills for this role are:

  • A good level of general education
  • Excellent English language and writing/editing skills 
  • Knowledge of/interest in economics and current affairs, particularly geopolitics
  • You must be educated to university degree standard
  • Proficient in Word and Excel
  • 1-2 years of experience in online sub-editing. Experience of working in an outsourcing environment would be an advantage
  • Flexibility in dealing with a number of requests at the same time
  • Willingness to help out with different tasks
  • A good eye for detail
  • Reliability and ability to keep calm under pressure
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with other members of staff
