The Marketing and Circulation department is responsible for managing and growing The Economist subscribers globally.

 

The role is to support our Operations team, with the management of our e-commerce platform and global business processes, and assist the Circulation team in the creation and implementation of subscription marketing and sales campaigns and fulfillment operations.

Accountabilities

In this role you will be expected to:

 

  • Be a central point-of-contact for regional and global Circulation marketing teams in relation to campaign set up and support.
  • Create, maintain and optimize Product and Promotion catalogues within the SMS, updating product bundles, price zones, standard pricing, discounts and incentives
  • Coordinate price changes and the setup of new products
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of our Sales Management platform and associated tools used to manage our e-commerce operations
  • Provide support and advice to the global circulation team on how to best achieve their goals ensuring best practice is shared and understood
  • Provide Sales Management System support and training to the global circulation team and maintain training materials 
  • Provide quality checks across campaigns, ensuring sales journeys are tracked and orders processed as intended
  • Assist with the analysis and circulation of marketing operations report
  • Support the global customer operation team as required when members are absent
  • Provide operational support for newsletter and email management
  • Assist in the fulfilment management of all elements of the subscription offering.

 

Experience, skills and professional attributes

To succeed in the role you must have:

  • Educational qualification to degree or higher.
  • Experience of planning, analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to understand and communicate complex concepts and ideas to non-technical people.
  • Previous experience working within an ecommerce or marketing team
  • Experience of using tools such as WordPress, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Salesforce Service Cloud, would be desirable
  • Awareness of marketing principles and activities
  • Understanding of how data flows from system to system, importance of centralized systems, data integrity and naming conventions
  • Working knowledge of  Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of excel an advantage
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

As our business develops and expands its multiplatform approach to advertising, it is vital that we have in-house technical and product specialism on our existing and emerging digital capabilities. The Digital Revenue Team has been created as a digital centre of excellence within the business, to consolidate expertise, product development, vendor management and production across ads, content and analytics within the same team. The Web Developer (Front End) is a key part of the team, focused on the end to end technical delivery of digital deliverables.

Accountabilities

In this role you will be expected to:

 

  • Planning and development of front end web deliverables including:
    • Websites
    • Ad Units
    • Email templates
  • Technical design and implementation of ad serving technologies:
    • Working closely with the Ad Ops Specialist to understand and realize the technical/development aspects within advertising platforms and technologies, in order to meet Economist Group advertising needs.
    • Streamline ad setup to minimize latency and maximize efficiency
  • Propose, research and execute technical research and development projects into new front-end web technologies for use in the above deliverables
  • Perform troubleshooting & maintenance of technical deliverables
  • Participate in, and adhere to all Digital Delivery Team processes and tools
  • Prioritize work as needed based on deadlines
  • Manage time while working on multiple projects

  • 2+ years of experience is software development
  • Extensive experience building websites, ad units and email newsletter templates
  • Full software life cycle development exposure
  • Experience of editorial / content led and advertising projects
  • Experience working with remote teams
  • Experience in dealing with business users at all levels
  • The ability to convey concepts, issues and risks to technical audience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Analytical and problem solving skills with attention to detail
  • High levels of energy, enthusiasm and passion to succeed in a dynamic environment

 

You will be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

 

  • HTML
  • CSS
  • JavaScript (incl. frameworks, React, Vue)
  • WordPress and other CMS solutions
  • WebGL, Three JS, D3 JS
  • Node JS welcome, but not essential
  • Ad serving technologies, (specifically DFP / DBM), video platforms / Players, tracking, reporting and analytics platforms, and ad serving APIs.  
  • Understanding of different ad types and formats.
  • Technology infrastructure including Github, AWS and a range of CI processes and tools
  • Analytics implementation using Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager, and other measurement and tracking tools
