Overview of the Opportunity:

WSP is currently looking for multiple Materials Testing Field Technicians to join our team in Markham or Toronto (Etobicoke). The position will be responsible for working with a team of specialists to conduct geotechnical investigations and testing throughout the Greater Toronto Area for our clients.

What you can expect to do here:

  • You will provide technical services in a field and office environment;
  • You will supervise and/or carry out site geotechnical inspections of construction work and materials testing;
  • You will conduct in site testing of various materials on construction sites, compaction testing and testing of concrete and asphalt;
  • You will carry out concrete, soil and asphalt compaction testing in the field, proctor and gradation testing in the lab; 
  • You will work with and provide support to other members of the field technician group in assisting with other field and office activities as required;
  • You will participate in a team environment and strong communicator;
  • You will uphold strong workplace health and safety practices;
  • You may complete cther duties as assigned.

What you'll bring to WSP:

  • You have a Civil Engineering diploma, preferably with a focus on Geotechnical Engineering;
  • Ideally, you hold CCIL and CSA Certifications;
  • You have previous experience of soil and asphalt compaction, concrete testing, subgrade evaluation;
  • You have previous experience working as a geotechnical technician is an asset;
  • You hold knowledge of drilling procedures;
  • You have your own vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage and hold a Valid (G-Level) Ontario Driver's License;
  • You are mobile and willing to work on a combination of field and office work, as travel will be required;
  • You have excellent computer skills, proficiency with common industry software is required;
  • You are flexible, well organized, interested in technical and personal advancement, able to carry out assignments with minimal supervision;
  • You are able to work in a fast-paced environment, strong report writing skills and verbal communication in English are essential;
  • You demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and have the ability to communicate effectively and to proactively respond to time-sensitive issues.

WSP has an opening for a Consultant to join our Advisory Services team in Ottawa. We seek problem-solvers who combine strong analytical skills and the ability to develop innovative solutions independently. The position will involve supporting the team in the preparation of a wide range of financial and economic analyses, feasibility studies, due diligence and policy research through multi-disciplinary assignments. As a Consultant in our Advisory Services Group, you will be part of a team working on national and international engagements for public and private sector clients that own, operate, and invest in transportation infrastructure assets. We are looking for a hard-working, outside-the-box thinker to join our growing team in Ottawa.

Our Advisory Services group is focused on providing policy support, financial analysis, management consulting, economic analysis, risk analysis, ITS planning and asset management services to public and private transportation infrastructure owners and operators. Responsibilities 

  • Conduct both qualitative and quantitative analyses such as economic cost-benefit analyses/business cases, financial modelling, feasibility studies, and due diligence

  • Proactively undertake business development efforts by identifying, capturing and responding to opportunities

  • Establish and maintain good working relationships and communication with clients, department managers, project managers, internal and external leads

  • Ensure quality control and quality assurance.

  • Other duties as assigned/required.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree with a major in engineering, planning or business

  • Advanced degree in engineering, planning, business, economics or finance is preferred

  • CFA or other financial modelling designations would be considered an asset

  • Experience with transportation policy and knowledge of new mobility considered an asset

  • Experience working with Provincial and Federal clients would be considered an asset

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, particularly through Excel based analyses

  • Ability to think creatively, work independently and deliver high-quality work with minimal supervision

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-based environment to meet strict deadlines

  • Committed team player with strong communication and organizational skills
