WSP is currently looking for a structural engineer to do structural design (steel, concrete, wood) for various construction, expansion, modification and optimization projects in the mining and industrial fields. The engineer jr could also be required to do site supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the design of plans, specifications and details from guidelines for building projects (institutional, commercial, industrial);
  • Conduct design calculations and ensure that plans conform to guidelines, code requirements and other regulations;
  • Establish and maintain contacts with clients to define needs, to present technical information, concepts or study results;
  • Produce quantity records and prepare budget estimates;
  • Ensure the verification and production of specifications and other technical documents;
  • Supervise the work of the technicians and draughtsmen assigned to the project;
  • Assist the Project Manager as required
  • Perform any other related duties that may assist in the completion of the project.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Civil Engineering;
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in structural project design;
  • Be a member of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec;
  • Consulting engineering experience considered an asset;
  • Sense of initiative, attention to detail;
  • The ability to work in a team;
  • Excellent communication both orally and in writing
  • Bilingualism (an asset)

Overview of the Opportunity:

At WSP our Environmental Engineering team are providing field data collection services to position WSP as a leader in the market. We're looking for a Junior Environmental Scientist or Technologist to join the Environment team and to be located at our Kelowna office in BC. Reporting to the Team Lead, Environment Interior and North Group, you will perform field data collection and assist with on-site assessment and remediation services.

What you can expect to do here:

  • You will execute site-specific field data collection for the Environmental Group (contaminated sites division) across various regions of BC
  • You will be required to travel throughout the province (for short periods of time typically)
  • You will assist with on-site assessment and remediation activities
  • You will maintain effective communication with team members, contractors and clients
  • You will complete assignments within the constraints of the project work plans and budgets
  • You will prepare accurate and detailed field notes
  • Tabulation of data including the preparation of borehole/test pit logs
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports
  • You will always ensure health and safety policies are followed at all sites and take WSP's Life Saving rules to heart and;
  • Other duties as assigned or required in your role.

What you'll bring to WSP:

  • You possess a technical College Certificate or University degree in environmental engineering/science or related discipline
  • You have a valid and fully licensed driver
  • You enjoy the outdoors, as fieldwork will likely comprise approximately 50% - 70% of the work week

WSP is currently seeking Survey Assistants to join our Geomatics Team, located at our Edmonton and Calgary, AB offices. Reporting to the Crew Manager, this position will be responsible for assisting the Survey Party Chief in any and all aspects of field work including use and care of various survey instrumentation and equipment. Working at WSP you will use the latest technology including GPS, Robotic Total Stations, 3D Laser Scanners, UAV’s as well as in-house customized tools and systems for field and office complete with dedicated in-house support. 

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Party Chief in any and all aspects of field work including: operations of survey equipment, and vehicles
  • Organize and maintain survey equipment and vehicle
  • Actively participate in and proactively support the advancement of the WSP safety program
  • Other duties as assigned/required.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a recognized post-secondary program related to surveying and Geomatics and/or have experience in the land surveying industry in a variety of related land surveying disciplines
  • Satisfy pre-employment requirements to demonstrate fit for duty, including drug screening
  • A valid driver’s license and ability to provide clean driver’s abstract
  • Survey assistants must enjoy working outdoors and be able to work out of town in remote locations for extended periods of time.
  • Familiar with the operation of ATVs/UTVs, snowmobiles and chainsaws is considered an asset
  • Completed training and valid tickets in First Aid, H2S and CSTS safety training, is an asset
  • Must be willing to travel
