The Environmental Products Trading Business (EPTB) operates in environmental product markets across the globe and has the following objectives:

  • Management of Shell Group’s position in all Environmental Products markets at a global level

  • Structured Trading, including development and optimisation of a deal portfolio with significant embedded optionality

  • Proprietary Trading

  • Originating solutions to third party customers and JV partners

  • Working with other Shell Trading desks to market Cross-Commodity products to customers and generate optimization opportunities across desks

EPTB is part of Shell Trading with desks in London, Singapore, San Diego and Shanghai.

General Job Definition

The position calls for a self-motivated, entrepreneurial and responsible individual with the ability to perform well under pressure and with limited direct supervision within a global team of capable and motivated individuals.

The role is as a Structured Trade Finance Associate.  You will be expected to work alongside colleagues to build a profitable STF business through originating, structuring and executing innovative structures obtaining desired short, medium- and long-term term exposures, especially optionality.  Given the pace of market developments, you will need to be agile, adaptive and possessed of a strong work ethic.
 
Accountabilities 
 

You will primarily be responsible for meeting targets for Gross Margin, with an emphasis on material and sustainable contributions. You will be working in a rapidly evolving business area, often in challenging regulatory and legal environments.  The role will require you to:

  • Grow materially the gross margin from STF deals in the Asia Pacific and Oceania Carbon markets, with a view to replicate in other markets across the Global team

  • Create innovative structured products in response to demand and changing market conditions, and work with internal stakeholders to obtain necessary approvals.

  • Ensure that all desk activities comply with financial and market regulations, as well as Shell’s compliance manual.

Skills & Requirements:

Candidates are required to have a wide set of multidisciplinary skills including:

  • Master’s degree in Business Law/Financial Economics/MBA

  • Up to 3-5 years of experience in Investment Banking, having completed a 1-2yr analyst or associate program or involvement in Corporate Finance Advisory, Investing or Private Equity in a fund or large corporation in a deal execution/ analyst role

  • A good understanding of commodity markets and parallels between options, capital markets and implicitly implied financing structures that provide exposure to both markets and a capital structure

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, programming skills in VBA desirable

  • The ability to support senior deal leads and become an integral member of the execution team with a proven work ethic and track record of managing analysis/execution on multiple transactions at once

  • Experience in documentation negotiation and financial modelling of either (Gas, Base Metals, Power, Coal, Precious metals or Emissions markets or any other traded commodity)

  • Fluency in the English language. Fluency in Spanish, Korean or Chinese is desirable

  • Strong communication skills and proven ability to collaborate across teams essential

  • Ability to take deal ideas from a story board to a comprehensive pitch and take initiative to generate new deal execution strategies

  • An ambitious career driven team player able to harmonize with other cultures and deliver results

The Demurrage and Oil Loss Analyst conducts all related supply chain performance analysis of hydrocarbon stocks, supply & freight costs, demurrage, oil loss in connection with the operations activities within the Supply Envelope.
 
Principal Accountabilities:
 
1. Contributes to the Enterprise Value add by supporting the Supply Ops team in achieving Operational Excellence through:

  • Analyze and report on actual performance against plan/ target
  • Identify and implement opportunities for improvements
  • Facilitate effective data, information management and knowledge sharing in supply
  • Generates transparent leading performance indicators /KPI measurement

2. Maximize financial recoveries for Enterprise resulting from all claims activities to/from third parties, aim always to minimize profit leakage. Works with finance to manage, compute and allocate PT tariffs, freight, demurrage costs and claims to the appropriate cost centers and Shell entities.  
 
3. Ensure data entry and timely payment of claims/ demurrage payables and receivables with counterparties, such as: 

  • Verification of freight invoices
  • Computation of PT and ST tariff 
  • Ensure freight payment process is on time
  • Monitor actual spend value vs Purchase Order and Outline Agreement
  • Responsible for the Outline Agreement and Purchase Order creation request 

4. Works closely with Schedulers to provide analytical support for

  • Lifting performance vs supply plan and demand requirements
  • Freight cost analysis and optimization
  • Cost variance analysis

5. Carries out performance analysis for shipping activities, such as the utilization of vessel, HSSE, loss/gain, and consolidates and provides data for the vessel recognition awards. 
 
6. Acts as a focal point in feedback sessions with the Terminal Managers. This will include the getting of feedback from the Terminal Managers and Ship owners and converting these feedbacks into actions to improve efficiency.
 
7. The focal point for the Business Plan/T&R process for Supply Operations, Envelope Supply Operations and Logistics Master Data. Ensures supply chain integrity in the operational systems such as GSAP, TSW (Trading and Scheduling Workbench) and for Channel Optimization planning and Primary Distribution scheduling tool.
 
8. Functions as TSW and Master data superuser.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2-3 years experience in the same field 
  • Knowledge and experience in data analytics, value chain, contract and stakeholder management.
  • The job is a great opportunity for persons with an operational background/experience who want to develop into trading/contracts professionals.
  • He/She requires the ability to understand key elements of supply chain and operations, scheduling and transportation, execution of contracts and hydrocarbon management. The candidate is expected to be analytical, attentive to details and systematic in keeping communications /information trail.  
  • Experience in negotiation, dealing with counter-parties would be an advantage.
