Construction and Engineering

Overview

With the Abundance of skyscrapers dotting the Dubai skyline, it is no surprise that the construction sector in the UAE is a fruitful one. In 2006, Dubai was home to 30,000 cranes, which made up 24% of the world’s total. In 2014, the volume of planned projects in the UAE as a whole was said to be valued at $315bn, now reaching over $700bn in total.

The announcement of Expo 2020 taking place in the UAE, and the expectation of it drawing 25 million visitors during the six-month hosting period, is expected to have an overall beneficial impact both economically and demographically. The enthusiasm and energy this event foresees for the construction industry is also good news for fresh graduates, as vacancies and employability in the sector are said to be in constant growth.

The UAE has advertised demands for around 90,000 engineers from different sectors in order to meet the increased demands from the projects developing in time for Dubai’s World Expo 2020. Experts predict an influx in job opportunities, which will be encouraged by growth in the labor-intensive engineering and manufacturing sectors. By 2020, the number of engineers, both locals and expatriates, is expected to go up to 90,000 employees, catching up to the ever-increasing numbers of infrastructural projects in the country.

Many engineering job opportunities are located in Dubai Industrial City and Dubiotech.
