TV is the medium of choice, with commercial stations Pro TV and Antena 1 being the leading outlets. TVR is the public broadcaster. There is a competitive pay TV sector, via cable and satellite. Romania is yet to complete the switch to digital terrestrial TV (DTT).

There are more than 100 private radios. Public Radio Romania operates national, regional and local stations.

Romania’s gaming industry recorded a turnover of USD 145.3 million in 2016, according to a study by the Romanian Game Developers Association (RGDA). The industry’s turnover went up by 27% in the last three years.

Over a quarter of the companies that are currently active in the industry were set up in 2016 alone. Romania has over 80 gaming studios, with more than 6000 employees. It is a highly specialized industry with a big added value and huge export potential.

Some 85% of the gaming studios in Romania specialize in developing new games whereas 15%, on services for the industry, according to RGDA.

The local gaming industry has grown around large studios built here since the 1990s. They have created or contributed to world-renowned video games such as FIFA, Need for Speed or Assassin’s Creed.
