Vietnam’s telecommunications market has developed rapidly during the last 10 years. Revenue of Vietnam telecommunications services in 2013 reach over 9.9 billion USD, an increase of 4.2% from the previous year. Also by this time, Viet Nam had 105 million phone subscribers, 93% of which are mobile users and 31 million internet users, according to the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC). The country is putting considerable effort into modernizing and expanding its telecommunications systems and with the ambition to become a top ICT, the Vietnamese Government plans to mobilize US$ 8.5 billion to develop information and communication technologies (ICT) during 2010-2020 which would be a great motivation for the telecommunications industry growth, in particular.

Regarding the electronics industry, Vietnam Electronic Industries (VEIA) noted that the industry has seen steady growth over the years in terms of export sales, obtaining obtaining 3.4 billion USD in 2010, 6.9 billion USD in 2011, 20.5 billion USD in 2012 and 32.1 billion USD in 2013. Of the 32.1 billion USD generated last year, exports of mobile phones and phone parts amounted to 21.5 billion USD. Such strong development was largely contributed by foreign companies like Samsung, Canon, and LG. With the target to double the number of Vietnam’s electronics export by 2017 to 40 billion USD, Vietnam has given large foreign investors preferential incentives for expansion in the country. This is a chance for Vietnamese enterprises attract more investment.
In general, it can be seen that the industries of Telecommunications and Electronics have high potential for development in the future.

Career opportunities


The evolution of telecommunications technology has transformed the way we communicate and transmit information. With the spectacular growth of the industry in Vietnam, the need for  qualified, well-trained telecommunications professionals also increases. Telecommunications graduates have a variety of opportunity to work at Post Office; mobile telecommunications companies (Vietel,  VNPT,…); Radio and Television; companies specializing on IC design and hardware solution (Renesas, eSilicon, INTEL,…). Other options may include Internet service providers, or instructor teaching at Vocational training center, College and University, etc…

  • Telecommunications engineers: work in research and development projects to improve the quality and performance of networks or equipment.
  • Telecommunications Systems Managers: develop, modify, and monitor the various different telecommunications systems which enable users to manage the functions of electronic equipment on their own.
  • Line Installers: responsible for the installation of new lines, and they do this by constructing utility poles, towers, and underground trenches to carry the wires and cables necessary to operate communications equipment such as telephones and televisions.
  • Equipment installers: set up telecommunications networks in buildings and install equipment, such as telephone exchanges, network components and handsets.
  • Customer Service Representative: assist telecommunications customers with various aspects of their accounts, including repair, installation, billing, and selecting appropriate telecommunications services.
  • Computer Software Engineers: Computer software engineers develop and build new computer software technology which is crucial to the innovation and growth of telecommunications.

Electronics covers a wide range of products and tools, ranging from televisions to cellular phones. There is a broad range of jobs available in the electronics manufacturing sector that support careers in design, implementation, production, support, and repair.

Examples of electronics graduate job opportunity may include:

  • Electronics Engineering: responsible for designing, developing and conducting research on various electrical systems and their parts.
  • Electronic Installation and Repair: responsible for completing routine maintenance where electronics equipment is located.
