Now is the time to be a content or media professional in India

According to the TimesJobs RecruiteX Report highlighted in the Economic Times, sectors such as media, finance and accounting are flourishing despite a slow-down in recruitment during the month of October.

Nilanjan Roy, head of strategy at Times Business Solutions, explains: “The data trend shows a regular dip in hiring around this festive season. Most people take their annual vacations during this period and it reflects in the manpower planning strategies of companies – which defer recruitments during this period. Post festivities, talent demand is seen to pick up pace.”

Roy also noted that while the festive season slowed certain sectors, others – such as financial accounts and tax consultancies – have seen a spike due to companies planning for the end of the year. This industry alone saw a 19% rise in demand for professionals during October.

But the good news doesn’t stop there! What other sectors are thriving?

Content and media professionals

As one of India’s growing sectors, content professionals, editors and journalists saw a 13% rise in demand over October 2016. Content marketing remains in its early growth phase, too, so now is the time to get involved.

Transport

Bengaluru is in the midst of a metro boom with the city reporting a 14% upsurge in demand. Pune followed with a 5% increase while Kerala also recorded a 5% increase. Engineers saw a 2% rise while logistics and warehousing saw a 3% rise in demand. BPO (business process outsourcing), ITeS (IT enabled services) and the EXIM (export / import) sectors reported a 1% rise.

Experienced professionals

Demand for professionals with 10 to 20 years of experience showed an average increase of 3% in October. Entry level roles saw a decrease of 2%, but this is predicted to improve once the festive season is over and large firms begin their recruitment processes in January.

Last month, the report found an increase in demand for healthcare and medical professionals, which indicates that these sectors will continue to do well, too.
