Description

Saumya Mathur is the Admin and Human Resource Head for Winsor Petrochemicals Private Limited in New Delhi. Below he talks about his career and how he accomplished his goals, and gives you advice on how to be successful in your future.

What do you do?

My job has two major aspects to it - Administration and Human Resources.

My administrative responsibilities include payroll, generating invoices for commission, billing etc, preparing purchase orders, arranging travel/stay related bookings, managing the company interest, designing leave policies and designing appraisal systems.

My HR responsibilities include arranging and interviewing candidates, maintaining the personnel files, keeping track of employee increment, promotion, appraisal and maintenance of leave record.

Why do you think you got this job?

Even though I did not have the experience of working as the Human Resource Manager, I went for this job interview wanting it more than anything else.

Human resources has always been the field I saw myself in. I connect very well with people and I feel that the word "HUMAN RESOURCE" itself contains the essence which is "being human".

To me that not only means logic and reasoning but to have a heart. It is very important to connect with the employees to help the organisation help them and get the maximum from them.

HR′s role is to marry the organisation with its employees, enabling a smooth and efficient work environment. This is my basic understanding of what it means, which in my opinion got me this job.

What key advice would you give to current students from India who would like to get into a similar job to you?

Anyone looking to pursue a career in this field needs to be a ′people person′.
