Description

Gaurav is an Associate at PricewaterhouseCooper in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Below he talks about his career and how he accomplished his goals, and gives you advice on how to be successful in your future.

What typical tasks and activities does your current role involve?

Providing industry focused assurance services to enhance the value of our clients. Statutory audit provides assurance on the reality and fairness of an organisation′s financial information; advice on controls and processing system weaknesses; confirmation of accounting treatments on complex transactions.

What skills, knowledge and experience contributed to you getting this job?

Degree from a reputable university in the UK. Ability to work hard as an individual and within a team. Able to work late hours and on weekends. Good communications skills with people as well as a desire to succeed and establish myself as a professional within the professional and services sector.

What key advice would you give to current Malaysian students who would like to get similar work to yours?

The most important thing would be to obtain a either a First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) Hons degree from a recognised University. Having a bit of work experience as well as an internship experience would also be helpful. A little bit of voluntary work is always something that enhances one′s CV and employers always take note of it.

Do you have any other useful advice for other current students and graduates?

Being focused is the primary advice. Once that has been done, conduct research on the firms you think would suit you best and apply to them early. Speak to people who have worked for and/or who are still working for them and get an idea of what working for a firm as such would be like.
