What attributes do you look for when recruiting graduates?

In graduates, employers like to see determination, inquisitiveness and an analytical mind. They don′t usually expect graduates to be technically proficient in accounting (they and ACCA will help you learn that), but a proven interest in finance and business is preferred. The most important qualities at this stage are largely personality-based: do employers think you′ll make a good fit for their company? Will a graduate pick up the processes of an organisation quickly, work well in a team and have confidence to take project ownership? Modern accountants are increasingly client facing, so it′s crucial that a graduate has the ability to handle client relationships. And if you can win business and retain clients, all the better

What key advice would you give to Africa students/graduates who would like to work for your company?

Training to be an accountant is a hugely challenging yet ultimately rewarding journey. To give yourself the best possible start, it′s important to choose the right professional qualification to pursue. Depending upon your career goals you′ll want a qualification that′s recognisable at home and perhaps around the world, one that offers you flexibility to pursue a professional path that suits you and that provides you with a designation that is recognised by employers large and small all over the world. ACCA members work at all levels in all industries and in a myriad of roles – just take a look at the jobs on offer on ACCA Careers, the ACCA′s official recruitment portal set up to support their members throughout their careers. The ACCA qualification prepares you for a career in business that can be as diverse as you make it.
